Suspension bridge Belalp Riederalp

Suspension bridge Riederalp - Belalp

11.4 km • ↑ 604m • ↓ 782m • 5:00 h

The 124 m long suspension bridge is one of the hiking highlights in the Aletsch region. At a height of 80 m, it leads you across the Massa Gorge directly in front of the glacier snout of the Great Aletsch Glacier. Crossing it is an impressive experience and lets the adrenalin rush through your veins.
If in former times, one got from the Belalp to the Riederalp over the Aletsch Glacier, today, this is not possible anymore due to the glacier regression. The suspension bridge built in 2008 restores this old connection; all in cooperation with Pro Natura, the WWF and the UNESCO World Heritage "Swiss Alps Aletsch-Jungfrau".

Offer for hiking groups

For decades we have been organising hiking weeks in Breiten: in summer in hiking boots, in winter on snowshoes we discover the whole of the Upper Valais. We know the area like "our trouser pocket" and can recommend different tours for every taste and every level of difficulty. Depending on your wishes, we can help you to put together a programme to suit your needs or organise the entire hiking stay for your group and accompany you personally on the hikes. Please get in touch with us. We are looking forward to your questions and wishes.
